What counts as a boiler emergency?

Not every boiler fault needs an engineer that night, but some genuinely cannot wait. Call our out of hours line if you have no heating or hot water and there are young children, elderly or vulnerable people in the home, if water is leaking from the boiler or pipework and you cannot stop it, or if the boiler is making loud banging, whistling or gurgling noises.

Smell gas? Do this first

If you can smell gas or suspect a leak, act before calling us. Open the doors and windows, turn the gas off at the meter if it is safe, and do not touch electrical switches or use naked flames. Leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. If a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, get everyone out into fresh air and call 999. Once you are safe, call us to arrange the repair.

We know that choosing the right service often comes with a few questions. Here are some of the ones we’re asked most often.

Do you offer 24 hour boiler repair? +
We offer out of hours emergency cover from 6pm to 8am, and we handle breakdowns during the day in normal hours too. So while we are not a literal 24 hour call centre, between the two you are covered for genuine emergencies whatever the time.
What counts as a boiler emergency? +
Anything that leaves you without heating or hot water when it is not safe to wait, a leak you cannot stop, a gas smell, a carbon monoxide alarm going off, or a boiler that has locked out and will not reset. If in doubt, call and we will be honest about whether it can wait.
How quickly can you get to me? +
We get to genuine emergencies as fast as we safely can. The exact time depends on where you are and how busy the night is, so the quickest thing is to call and we will give you a straight answer.
What areas do you cover for emergency callouts? +
Houghton le Spring and the wider North East, including Sunderland, Durham, Washington and Chester le Street. Call and we will confirm we can reach you.
How much does an emergency boiler repair cost? +
It depends on the fault and the time of the callout, so we will not throw a random figure at you. Call, tell us what is happening, and we will be clear about the cost before any work starts.
Can you repair any make of boiler? +
Yes, we work on all the major makes including Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Baxi, Ideal and Glow worm, on both natural gas and LPG.
Do I need a Gas Safe registered engineer? +
Yes. By law, any work on a gas boiler must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer. We are Gas Safe registered, so you are in safe and legal hands.
